A Sad Weekend

We had a rough Christmas weekend here at Zimmerman.

We lost two members of our work family. Our office manager Vivian Natividad and our salesman Danny Peoples.

These were extraordinary people, who I feel honored to have known and worked with and they will be missed. Please scroll down for information on memorial services.

Happy Holidays

I walk to the office here starting out before the sun rises and what a beautiful walk it's been the last couple of days. Sure I might have to wrap my scarf around my ears and bury my gloved hands just as deep in my coat pockets as they'll got to avoid the bite of the cold but it's worth it. It's worth it to see the white frozen white leaves on the ground and the frozen blades of grass all sparkling as the sun comes up. I grab a nice cup of hot coffee at the halfway point and then I arrive to a nice toasty office since the nice ladies in the front office arrive about thirty minutes before me and kick the heat on right away. It's Rainin' It's Pourin'

Well, it's not quite pouring, but the little bit of rain we're getting is kind of nice. We were well prepared for it, so it doesn't make for the headache you might expect.
In other news, the WEBSITE REDESIGN IS DONE! Okay, almost done. We've got the basic site up, now we're putting together galleries showing our work, and showing the process of getting a roof done from tear off to competion.

WIndy Day

Walking through midtown today, making my way toward the office, it wasn't that cold but the wind was whipping things around like crazy. It was actually pretty cool, especially when walking by big palm trees that made me feel like I was in a tropical storm. It may be less exciting for the guys that have to climb on a roof. Today will be one of those where the roofers don't mind all the safety ties and ropes they're required to use.

Okay, folks, I understand you need a roof. I can see why you'd want to do it now, before the rain kicks in, but please, have a heart, I can't be typing in ALL these roofs we're doing EVERY week. Give me a break. My typing muscles hurt just looking at this stack of contracts.

If you simply MUST buy a roof, can you at least put it on a house that sits at a nice short street address; "610 3rd ave" would be nice. No more 123453 North East Rappahantas Trail Blazer Lane Way is a bit much don't you think.

Roofing in Paradise

Now this is what you call roofing weather. It's just amazing out there. This probably explains why I missed a week on this blog. Who wants to sit in front of a computer, in doors, blogging, when they could be outside cleaning up the yard, stacking tile, or taking a break to sip some some iced tea while watching other people do all that hard work I just mentioned.

The Amazing Weather Continues

Wow, it feels like Fall already. I'm sure the heat is coming back but for now putting on long sleeve shirts in the morning and turning the A/C off is quite a treat. Record Breaking

Last week it was a novelty, this unrelenting heat, now it's serious. I'm thinking we move the whole dang town to the arctic. We can learn to reroof igloos. Fresh fish for dinner every night. It doesn't sound too bad.

And because I know you're concerned, our office pet Sea Monkeys are doing fine. They're sitting on my desk swimming in loops and arcs even as I type. I wasn't sure how they'd do over the hot weekend with the AC off, but they seem to have weathered it just fine.

No office is complete without a small tank of Sea Monkeys. Pictured at right is the Sea Monkey tank sitting on my desk here at Z.R. command central. About an hour ago the Sea Monkey eggs were added, and now we wait. We should have a bunch of "instant pets" swimming around in no time. Click HERE for more on Sea Monkeys.

Busier Every Day...

As you can see by scrolling down, we're plenty busy with reroofs. I have some great new pictures which I will add to this post shortly. For now, we wish you all a great weekend. Back to Work

After a three day weekend of beautiful weather, hanging out at the river, seeing our family and friends, you better believe we couldn't wait to get back to work. You see our guys, they miss the roofs when we're away. They dream of tile, shakes and comp. We have to force them to take a vacation, and even then we often catch them sneaking back onto the job site, wearing fake mustaches and other lame disguises so that they can continue rolling out felt, installing tiles, getting that flashing around the chimney on there just right. Here's where you can see the works in progress of these modern artists right now.

With all the folks flooding into town for the Jazz Festival, it's a good thing we're out making Sacramento's roofs look good. I can hear them now, arriving back in Omaha, Boise or Springfield; "Yes, the traditional jazz was good, and plentifull, but that town's roofs are what really impressed me."

Feliz Cinco De Mayo

I wish you all a fun and safe weekend of celebration. We're busy as can be, but I think we'll squeeze some time in for a BBQ or maybe a trip to the river. If I'm going to have anytime at all I better get back to work myself so here's this week's list.

Tile
We've got a couple of tile roofs being installed this week.

• First off we have an Eaglelite Ponderosa roof on the 5900 block of Mariners Court in Elk Grove, 95758.
• The other tile roof is on the 22oo block of Hillcrest Way in Charmicheal, 95608. They're getting Eaglelite American Heirloom, Cascade Blend. We should start loading their tile on Monday.
  

Shake

Just one shake roof this week.

• We're putting heavy cedar shakes on a house on the 900 block of Lake Front Drive, in the Pocket area, 95831.

Composition
Our comp crews are being kept plenty busy, with four re-roofs going.

• First up is a Brown Wood-Owen's Corning roof on the 2900 block of Wiese Way, 95857.
• Next we've got Driftwood-Owen's Corning roof on 9000 block of Epernay Court, 95829.
• On the 3300 block of M Street we have an Onyx Black Owen's Corning roof, 95816.
• And finally another Owen's Corning, this time Estate Grey is being installed on the 5700 block of Gloria Drive, 95822.

Is It Actually Spring?

They're threatening us that more bad weather may be on the way, but so far they've been wrong and the blue skies have stuck around.

We've got plenty of roofs going. I'll start with the Tile roofs.

• We're putting Eagle Tile's Canyon Brown Ponderosa style on a house on Rifton Ct. in Elk Grove (95758.)
• And we've got a Eagle Lite tile roof being installed on the 15000 block of Rio Circle in Rancho Murieta (95683.)
  

We have one Shake roof using heavy cedar.

• It sits on the 1400 block of Sherwood Ave in Sacramento (95822.)

We have four Composition roofs going, all using Owen's Corning brand comp.

• The first is on the 6900 block of Laguna Lakes Way in Elk Grove (95758). This roof is getting Desert Tan comp.
  
• The second comp roof is on the 700 block of North Campus in Davis (95616) and is being done in Shasta White.
• Third is a Quarry Gray roof on the 600 block of 35th street (95816.)
• Finally, we are roofing an addition to a home on the 6500 block of South Land Park Drive, in South Land Park.
  

As you can see, there are lots of great color options with comp, just as there are with tile.

The Sun is Out at Last

We've had a sunny week and we're taking full advantage. There's plenty of work to be done after that crazy stretch of neverending rain. The hard part is figuring out what to do with this ark we started building and all these animals that we collected in pairs. You've never seen an ark with a tile roof?

We're putting shake roofs on in three places; One roof on Winding Creek Road (95864), another on 10th Ave (95818) and the third is out on Swanston Drive (95818).

We also have three composition roofs going up. On 58th Street (95817) we're installing a Teak colored Owens Corning roof on a dulex. We're doing two Brownwood comp roofs on Ambrose Way (95831) and Peck Drive (95828). On Hillrise Dr in Charmicheal (95608) we're doing an Onyx Black roof.

And then there's tile. On Rio Oso Drive we're installing an Eaglelite, Ponderosa Style roof.

If you're looking to reroof you should check out some of these roofs. You'll see how doing our own tear offs and trucking allow us to put a great roof on quickly and with as little muss and fuss as possible.

A trip to Santa Cruz

I celebrated Dave's birthday by treating myself to a trip to Santa Cruz for the weekend. I'm back now, but I'm having trouble adjusting to not being able to walk outside and see the ocean. Perhaps a stroll through Capitol Aquarium when I get off work will help.

Work around here somehow continued in my absence. We installed a heavy cedar shake roof on 10th Avenue in the Land Park neighborhood. This is a beautiful part of town, with so many different styles of houses side by side, and of course many different roof styles.

We also finished a tile roof in Elk Grove on Kilcolgan Way. The customer chose the very popular Ponderosa tile from Eagle.

I really am trying to get some pictures of these jobs. One of the super intendents told me today that he'd be e-mailing me some pictures so I'm maintaining hope that we'll be a colorful blog, full of photos any day now.

Happy Birthday Dave!

Today is Dave Zimmerman's birthday. Surprisingly he didn't take the day off. I'm sure he plans to do some celebrating this weekend.
He's a great guy to know and a great guy to work for. I hope he has an awesome bithday and birthday weekend.
I'll post an update on roofs we've finsihed durring these much desired sunny, or at least non-rainey days, on Tuesday.

Oceanic Way

A landlocked town, Sacramento has plenty of Ocean View, Beach Drive, and Oceanic Way type street names. Wishful thinking I guess. There is of course no Ocean view on Oceanic Way, but there is a new roof done by Zimmerman Reroofing. To be more precise, we installed a 30 year Owens Corning Pro Series composition roof in Sierra Grey.

We also completed a tile roof this week on Rio Oso Drive in Rancho Murieta (95683). The homeowner chose Eaglelite Ponderosa tile. The advantage with the light weight tiles is that an older home won't need as much structural work as it might if a standard weight tile roof were applied.

More Roofs Completed

Well the weather wasn't nearly as bad as the experts predicted. We finished some roofs and I even managed to get a bike ride in without getting soaked.

On Morris Way in the 95864 zip code we finished a cedar shake roof. Let me say again, these shake roofs are absolutely beautiful.

We finished one composition roof with Owens Corning Pro 40 year comp in Citrus Heights (95621)
and we did another comp roof in the same Owens Corning shingles in Carmichael (95608).

The composition material has come a long way in recent years and these roofs look sharp. The homeowners were pleased for sure.

We have a tile roof scheduled for early next week. We've ordered cameras for all of our superintendents, and as soon as they get here I'll have some photos for this blog.

We Got One

That old rain can't keep us down. Well, not all the way down. We did have enough of a break in the downpour to complete roofing on a house addition on South Land Park Drive in East Sacramento. We put Owen's Corning 30 year dimensional comp on the house and everything went a smoothly as can be. Hopefully we got some more breaks in the rain soon as we have no shortage of re-roofs ready to be done.

Rain, Rain, Rain

We've put Re-Roofing on hold for the week, as the weathers just been too unpredictable. We haven't had a promise of no rain for long enough to get a tear off done safely. We of couse can't have it raining indoors. I'm guessing home owners would frown on such a thing.

So, we're ready to scramble when the sun comes back out. There will be plenty of work to do then. In the meanwhile we'll all enjoy Girl Scout Cookie season but we'll try not to enjoy too many of them cookies. See you next week, hopefully with news of sunny days and much work getting done.

Roofs finished this week.

Despite the rain we had a good week. We've got houses roofed and looking good.

We finished a wood shake roof on Pimental Way in the pocket area. Wood shake is my personal favorite. I like the rustic look it gives a home.

On Spillman Ave in the 95819 zip code we installed a composition shingle roof using Owens Corning Onyx Black, which looks great.

We completed two homes using Eagle Tile, one on Besselton Place in El Dorado Hills and another on Twin River Way in the Pocket Area. Tile is very popular. Homeowners like that it is made to last a lifetime and it is a good investment as it is likely to increase the value of a home. And of course it looks awesome.

We have more rain coming, but we do all our own tear offs, trucking, and installations, so we're able to move fast and get a-lot done even when have very few dry days to work with.

I celebrated my birthday on Sunday. I had a great birthday weekend and I'm trusting the rest of the staff didn't do too bad as the office is pretty cheery despite it being a rainy Monday. I'm working on getting our super intendents to come by with their cameras so I can get some pictures of our recent roofs up so look for this blog to become more of a photoblog soon.

First Post

It's raining today so things are quiet around here. Rain days are nice for catching up on ordering product and following up with customers.
Two homes were finished over the weekend and both passed inspection. Two more satisfied customers.
Dave Zimmerman is back from a trip to Chicago. He is glad to be home. It may be a bit cold and rainy here, but apparently the windy city was freezing. He got plenty to eat, enjoying the diversity of food Chicago offers.
